I've been looking for hay but in the recent issue of Countryside Magazine, they tell me that straw is better in the North than Hay. Well that's good as it seems that there is a lot more straw around here than hay. If found one easily enough about 40 miles away in Ricketts Glen, also a State Park area, it's very pretty up there, extremely remote. Next time I will have to take a camera. Last time I just wandered upon the place in the first snow of winter and it was quite lovely with the ice and the pristine snowfall.
A friend, Shelia, mentioned that pumpkins were great food for chickens in winter. She just cuts one open and lets them eat their hearts delight, seeds, insides and all. She said that pumpkins are also good as "dewormers". She does not cook the pumpkin btw.
